these last few years, any time there's a new outbreak of something dangerous, we've been ... too worn down and traumatized to really have a lot of feelings about it
it's just kind of "what's the incubation period? oh good, it's short, fingers crossed that we can get this under control"... or sometimes "well fuck, it's long, guess this one is getting away from us"
also, specifically in regard to politics, it is necessary to expect politicians to do their fucking jobs no matter how many centuries of evidence suggest that they aren't going to. giving up on that is giving our alleged leaders a free pass to make things even worse.
