Huh, so LiFePO batteries have half the energy density of Li-Mn, but also 4-40x higher cycle durability.

This post was brought to you by looking at the MNT Reform and being baffled by the battery life and then realizing that it's using battery chemistry that does in fact have half of the energy density of usual batteries but also won't degrade nearly as fast so you don't quite have to worry about what my current laptop is experiencing which is "battery capacity is at 50% of the original after 5ish years of use"

Well all things considered the MNT Reform has bad performance for the price (same price as a laptop with a Snapdragon X Elite while being 3x slower than my current 5 years old laptop), bad battery life for the price (even if the batteries have better charging cycle longevity), and no meaningful support for any OS other than Debian (or a special version thereof?).

Also the default keyboard layout is IMO cursed, and adjusting it requires building and flashing a custom version of the KBC firmware, but realistically this isn't a big deal unless the physical key layout is unworkable.

It has undeniably lovely industrial design overall though and everything being OSHW is really fucking cool. And the handbook is neat.

from what I hear it seems like mainline support for the RK3588 may be possible; I don't know how much more extra stuff they have besides that. But they also seem pretty happy to help if you want to compile your own kernel
