i wish they would just make it a decentralized, open standard, so i could actually recommend it
or at the very least drop the phone number requirement on registration, i can't use it if i have to give them a phone number. a messaging service has no business asking my phone number
Plus, I know people who just don't have phones. One of my coworkers from my last job, for example, but he kept a close eye on his emails to compensate.
@rinmari68k@lumi It doesn't require to be running at the same time as your phone anymore; it gets its own keys and can do all the ratcheting stuff independently. But you still need to boot your phone every now and again to re-authorize the desktop client.
