LB we really need to get away from DNS tbh. Why are we even paying companies for domain names? Is there any possible way that we can continue finding companies that haven't been bought out by a huge tech conglomeration? I'm not optimistic about that. We need a more democratic or decentralized solution to web navigation before big tech makes web hosting a "corporations and rich people only" thing

I just don't know a solution that doesn't look like .onion, .i2p, or the widely criticized pgp "web of trust"

@walnut one solution I saw was kind of like phone contacts, except people can forward the sites. I wish I had a link to share because it was a really interesting idea

"petnames" is a keyword that will probably bring you to something like that, and i2p has a basic integration and even a couple centralized repositories of them. But I have this in mind now, too.

Apparently someone also made an integration for activitypub usernames (I found this just now on a search and haven't looked through the rest of the blog)
