it feels disappointing how mls got standardized with the linear commits requirement

hoping that there is some very good reason for it and it'll get amended to work for decentralized applications, because this requirement makes mls pretty much useless in practice neocat_sad

I think the matrix folk were pushing for a modified version that didn't require retaining ephemeral key data as long for out of order messages. It looks like there are still people working on an ietf draft. Not sure if they're the same effort.
